My Role

During my internship at Second Bind, I contributed to refining key pages for its sub-brand Upthrift and collaborated on redesigning significant pages for Second Bind. My work spanned creating cohesive style guides, enhancing user engagement through improved designs, and ensuring alignment with brand values. Here is a detailed account of my work.

I refined the structure, design, and content presentation for the Ethical Sourcing and Embracing Diversity pages on Upthrift.

Collaborated with the design team to redesign Second Bind’s Corporate Liquidation and Career pages.

Developed a cohesive style guide to ensure consistency across the Upthrift website.

Ethical Sourcing Page (Upthrift)

Objective
The Ethical Sourcing page needed a redesign to clearly communicate Upthrift’s commitment to sustainable practices and responsible sourcing. The goal was to create a visually engaging page that aligned with the brand’s ethos while improving the user experience.

Process

Content Structuring: Organized the information into digestible sections with clear headings to guide users through the narrative.

Visual Storytelling: incorporated custom icons, imagery, and infographics to highlight Upthrift’s sourcing principles and initiatives.

Call-to-Actions (CTAs): Strategically placed CTAs encouraged users to explore more about the company’s efforts or engage with related content.

Cohesive Design: Applied the newly developed style guide, ensuring consistent typography, colors, and visual elements across the page.

Outcome
The redesigned page effectively presented Upthrift’s ethical values, resonating with users and enhancing their understanding of the brand’s mission. Stakeholders provided positive feedback on the improved structure and visual appeal.

Embracing Diversity Page (Upthrift)

Objective
The Embracing Diversity page aimed to showcase Upthrift’s inclusivity initiatives. The challenge was to humanize the content and connect emotionally with users while maintaining a clean and professional design.

Process

Highlighting Key Messages: Used bold typography and impactful statistics to emphasize Upthrift’s diversity efforts.

Integrating Testimonials: Included real-world stories and testimonials to make the content relatable and authentic.

Visual Appeal: Designed graphics and illustrations to break up the text and create a visually engaging layout.

User-Centered Design: Focused on intuitive navigation to ensure users could easily access the information.

Outcome
The updated page successfully communicated Upthrift’s inclusivity message, creating a stronger emotional connection with users and reinforcing the brand’s identity as a socially responsible company.

Corporate Liquidation Page (Second Bind)

Objective


The corporate liquidation page on Second Bind’s website required a redesign to improve usability, simplify navigation, and modernize its appearance. This was critical for engaging corporate clients and facilitating their understanding of the liquidation process.

Process

Collaboration: partnered with another designer to brainstorm and refine ideas for the page layout.

Content Hierarchy: Prioritized key information by applying visual hierarchy principles, making it easier for users to find what they needed quickly.

Modular Design: Implemented a grid-based layout for structured content presentation and a more polished look.

User Testing: Gathered feedback from stakeholders to iterate on the design and ensure it met user needs.

Outcome


The redesigned page improved clarity, functionality, and alignment with Second Bind’s brand identity. It successfully addressed user pain points, making it easier for corporate clients to engage with the company’s services.

Reflection and Learnings

This project allowed me to deepen my skills in UX/UI design while understanding the importance of brand alignment and user-centered design. Collaborating with team members and iterating based on feedback taught me the value of flexibility and effective communication in achieving project goals.

By combining strategic design thinking with a commitment to storytelling, I was able to deliver pages that not only looked appealing but also aligned with the mission and values of Second Bind and Upthrift.
