Can podcast platforms solve the lack of engagement and personalization for listeners ?
Competitor Analysis
To initiate my research, I commenced by examining several competitors and analogous platforms, evaluating their user interfaces (UI), user experiences (UX), user flows, information architecture (IA), and prominent features. Additionally, I conducted a comparative analysis, as detailed below, to understand how these platforms fulfill various aspects such as content library, user personalization, and community engagement.
Research
Diverse group of podcast enthusiasts aged 18–25 was chosen through online communities, social media and mutual friends
Semi-Structured Interviews: Employed a mix of predefined questions.
Key Focus Areas: Questions revolved around content discovery, personalization, interface usability, recommendations, and the overall podcast experience.
Data Collection: Conducted a week via 10-15 minute video calls, allowing participants to openly share thoughts and challenges.
Research Findings
• 84% of participants desire personalized podcast content, with 61% indicating increased frequency of listening if content aligns with their preferences.
• People struggle to find podcasts blending global insights with localized stories, while 82% are interested in features suggesting podcasts based on preferences.
• Users accessing personalized content spend 23% more listening time, and 89% believe personalization improves the podcasting experience.
• A user-friendly interface impacts platform choice for 94%, with 78% prioritizing easy navigation and content discovery.
Goals
•The app aims to provide users with a highly personalized podcasting experience by leveraging advanced AI technology to tailor content based on individual preferences, ensuring that listeners receive episodes aligned with their interests.
•The app strives to create an immersive and engaging listening adventure through lifelike AI narration, enhancing the quality of the podcasting experience and making it feel natural and captivating for users.
User’s Journey
Every morning, as the commuter gets ready to head to work, she opens her favorite podcast app on her smartphone.
With a tap, she starts streaming. She starts listening to the podcast “Balancing life and work” as she was looking for something related work and life on her way.
Once the app is open, she is presented with a wide range of podcast categories and genres to choose from. Excitedly, she taps on a few categories that resonate with her current mood and curiosity.
Engrossed in the podcast's discussions, she finds herself thoroughly enjoying the episode. The hosts' insights resonate with her, and she chuckles at their anecdotes. Impressed, she decides to mark this episode as a favorite.
Using the app's search bar, she types in keywords related to the kind of podcast she wants to listen to today.
Having finished the episode, She's pleased to know that the podcast app's algorithm will take note of her choice. In the coming days, she anticipates receiving personalized recommendations that align with her selected interests, ensuring her daily commute remains both informative and entertaining.
